Centennial Gun Club opens shooting range

 Reporter-Denver Business Journal –

The owners of the Centennial Gun Club couldn’t get the business’ new shooting-range facility open fast enough.

Virtually since the day the business opened in February 2012 as the Gun Store at Centennial, near the busy corner of Peoria Street and Arapahoe Road, its six existing lanes were completely booked at all times.

So the company immediately sank $10 million into building a 35,000-square-foot facility, with 28 shooting lanes, a lounge and a 5,000-square-foot retail store. It opened at 11800 E. Peakview Ave. this month, adjacent.

“That should really ease up the pressure on the lanes,” said Richard Abramson, general manager. “As soon as we feel the pressure on those lanes, we have room to add 10 more — which should be a cushion for a long time to come.”

The business’ growth has been rapid: It started turning a profit after the first year of operation and have doubled year-over-year revenues in the second year of business, Abramson said.

“The business has grown a huge amount in the past year,” he said. “We don’t know what the new normal is … We’ve had so many first-time gun buyers in the last year, the complexion of the industry has changed in the last two years.”

It’s a business that seems to turn on a dime with political changes, news of mass shootings and supply-and-demand challenges with ammunition.

Abramson said the number of memberships has “more than doubled” in the last year and retail sales have tripled.

“We’ve scrambled to find the ammunition we need to keep the range stocked adequately,” he said. “We’ve just signed new contracts, which should give us a solid supply for the foreseeable future.”

More than 300 members signed up in the days after the new shooting center opened, which Abramson said is the largest in the state.

Saunders Construction Inc. of Centennial was the general contractor for the facility. Intergroup Architects of Littleton designed it.

Abramson said the business plans to hire up to 12 people in coming weeks to help staff the new center. Company officials are also looking to replicate the model in four other cities.

Tactical Pistol Level I Course Testimonial

Picture 21

Tactical Pistol Level I Course with Matt Mueller: One word – AWESOME!

I attended the TPL1 Class yesterday with three other classmates. Let’s put it this way – this class was good enough to miss the Bronco’s AFC Championship Game!!

Like many of the classes at CGC, this course was broken down into two “phases”: Classroom and Range.

The Classroom portion of the class was VERY professionally taught in an open “discussion” formatwith Matt providing details and then opening the floor up for discussion. Our particular class included a Neuro-Physiologist as one of the students and Matt encouraged his input on the physical effects of shot wounds, etc… GREAT information and the ~five hours in the class room flew by!

The Range portion of the class was all “downrange” with close proximity firing; movement firing; Tueller (kind of, LOL) drills; etc… ALL FROM HOLSTER DRAW! This was also a “high tech” experience as Matt video taped us from two angles (over the shoulder dynamic and static from front/right) – looking forward to seeing how the videos turn out! GREAT learning tool as well – one set of videos BEFORE range practice; one set of videos AFTER range practice – it will be interesting to see if we improved.

This was a GREAT class and I ***HIGHLY*** recommend it to anyone who wants to advance their handgun proficiency in a tactical situation.

Well done Matt!! Looking forward to Level 2 and beyond classes SOON!!
